The Health Planners’ Toolkit, Module 5: Community Engagement and Communication, Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, 2006.

This toolkit was developed by Health System Intelligence Project, a team of health system experts retained by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s Health Results Team, to give LHINs the tools they need to engage the community effectively. The toolkit offers a very good introduction to CE, and the various principles/frameworks that inform it. It presents the steps in conducting a CE process, discusses tensions/problems in community engagement, presents a selection of engagement tools, and provides a useful introduction to communications. This is it! Everything you always wanted to know about CE, organized into an easy-to-use format. This toolkit is focused, well designed, simply worded, and will provide the reader with a resource that they can come back routinely to for usable ideas and methodology.
