Community Engagement and Urban Health, St. Joseph’s Health Centre (website).

This website is part of the organizational website for St. Joseph’s Health Centre, a community teaching hospital based in Toronto. It outlines principles of CE, and provides concrete examples of CE activities undertaken under four broad themes: raising community voices, cultivating integration initiatives, sharing reciprocal capacity, and facilitating healthy exchange. Activities under these broad themes are described, including population health panels on mental health and addictions, seniors’, women’s and newcomer’s health, an urban health alliance of 27 local health organizations and specific groups for patients, such as mothers-to-be without health insurance. Note that this example illustrates a hospital working to engage stakeholders external to the organization, and to institutionalize CE within organizational values and strategic plan.
