Community Engagement Guide 2007, Alberta Children's Services, 2007.

This resource was developed as a companion to the “Community Capacity Development Framework for Child and Family Services Authorities” by the Assembly of Co-Chairs of the Child and Family Services Authorities on behalf of Alberta Children’s Services. The guide sets out principles for a successful CE strategy, provides background on the continuum of CE goals (different from and yet similar to the IAP2 framework used on this website), and outlines key questions for determining the success of a CE initiative. The core component of this paper is a CE planning template – a blank version, a version that walks you through the planning process, and a completed example – that provides a good starting point for any organization wanting to initiate CE activities. This short and practical resource would be of use to novice CE planners, and offers an alternative planning process to those more familiar with CE.

Topics: Background/introduction, Capacity building, Evaluation/effectiveness, Follow-up, Goal setting, Planning – CE, Policy development, Stakeholder selection

Techniques & tools: Committee/working group, Communication materials, Framework/model/template
